I chose to look at Ansel Adams’ photography. Adams has many collections that cover many different subjects and genres of photography. I chose to look at his landscape collections. I find the landscape photographs to be very inspiring, especially the ones of the west. I believe that when people see these photographs they can see the beauty of this country. Although these pictures might not have been taken to inspire conservation of land I think that is one of the primary effect of the images. I really like his use of the black and white photography. And the way he makes the objects (i.e. Mountains, lakes, fields) seem larger than life. He makes them very powerful and beautiful. My project will be different because I will only be able to work in one area, Mt. Lemmon. While Adams landscapes cover many different landscapes. They will be similar in that I will also be using black and white photography. I will also try to make the scenes powerful and impressive.

This is actually the same part of the mountain as the first picture taken from further up the road. i tried to get some more of the western plan life in by adding the cactus in the bottom left corner. I think when you see the cactus with the mountain it places you in the unique place of Mt. Lemmon and Arizona.
I spotted this while biking up the road and fount it super interesting. The tree growing in the middle of these 2 big rocks shows that life can grow anywhere. I like how one side is darker and one is lighter but I like that you can tell its in Arizona.
I wanted to get some man made landscapes in the collection. I tried to incorporate strong lines in this photograph and tried to show that man is capable of tearing these giant mountains apart. I wanted to show the cut out mountain.
I think these last two photographs are the strongest in the group. Similar to the first photograph i wanted to give the feeling of being dwarfed by the giant shapes pf the mountain. I also want to give it location so I made sure to have a cactus in one of the thirds of the photograph.
Similar to the third photograph this photo shows life can grow anywhere even in a rock. I feel like this picture is interesting because of the lines on the rock and the cactus right along side it. I want this picture, and all 6 of these, to show the beauty in nature we have in our Tucson backyard.
Overall the series is very good, however the in the last photo the background is washed out by the light, with that detail the photo could be easily just as good as the rest of the series.

These are great photos that show the beauty of the desert. Like in Ansel Adams' work, the photos capture a wide range of values without losing detail. The exception is the last photo, whose contrast seems too great, as the background and foreground lose detail in the light and dark, respectively.
